The Morning Sun 🌞 that brings Family 💕 Together!
My first homemade Indigenous dum is finally complete! This drum has definitely taken me on a journey and I am excited to gift it away. I decided to paint a good morning sun and the ocean as my design because the sun represents joy, warmth, and life and the ocean symbols home (Victoria). I definitely had some frustrations while making the drum… some that even made me take the whole drum apart and restart! In honour of this drum I would like to give many thanks that helped me throughout my journey!
Thank you to local artist John Harris and his daughter Sage for leading us through this drum making workshop.
Thank you to my professor Nirmala for letting my classmates and I receive this beautiful experience.
Thank you to my Elder Louise for leading me in the right direction when things where getting hard.
Thank you to my mom (Kolette) for teaching me the ways in which you were shown on how to make a drum.
Thank you to my Dad (Dean) for using your creative ability to make me my drums wooden handle.
Thank you to elk that gave it’s life so this drum could come alive.
Thank you to Michelle Stoney for the art design on the front of my hide.
I rise my hands and give a massive thanks for this experience to be possible ❤️
