Music has always played a significant role in my life…. whether it has been through listening to it through an iPod, the radio, or learning piano growing up as a kid, or being in the school band, or using it to help me through a life scenario; music is my way of life. I grew up listen to country music and I know when I say that most people are like “oh noooo not country music”. But this type of music really allowed me to appreciate different stories the artist was trying to portray and also the different types of musical instruments the world has to offer. In all honesty I use music every day… it could be something as simple as singing in the shower or making my own beat up by clapping my hands or tapping my foot. Music helps me in a way that words can not explain. For example, my varsity team plays a remix tape that we have all contributed to when trying to get pumped up before a big game. I also listen to music when I run as it helps me get through the pain. Lastly, I use music for cultural purposes as-well. I come from an Indigenous background and in my cultural music is huge. I have grown up drumming and even making my own drums. Singing and learning traditional songs. This type of music is the most powerful kind that resinates with me the most because it allows me to connect to my ancestors. Music is much more then just listening to a song in my opinion… music is essentially my way of life.

This is one of the drums I had created and have played.
